Nick Ray
Mickey, this is Michael. Michael .. Mickey.
The Introduction of a Dynamic Duo
All I remember is I had a scene with Chris Walken and they came and said, "ACTION" and I saw Chris and I said "Oh My
God I'm in a movie with Chris Walken and I couldn't say my lines. I went behind the hut and I started cryin' 'cause he hit me
with his hat and he called me a dumb son of a bitch. (laughs) This wrangler .. this cowboy who was there came over and
said, "You know why Michael did that?" I said "No." and he said "..because he likes you so much." You know .. I guess
"Gee". (smiles)
Rourke on Cimino
He was great! He was fuckin' incredible. He was just a ball of fire. I never saw anything like him. I mean he reminded you
of this .. like a great football coach or something. All the strategy he had, the passion.. When Michael was ON, there was
nobody that could touch him really. He's just so well prepared and enthusiastic.
On Cimino's Approach
Some people don't like that kindaí shit, you know? But coming from an athletic background I enjoyed the fact that he
pushes people to the limit. I understood what he was doing. A lot of people can't work like that. but I guess I didn't that day.
But I liked working with Michael very much.
Synopsis
Michael Cimino's 1980 film Heaven's Gate just didn't sit well with American critics, audiences or many branches of the media. It 80
minute film. Heaven's Gate was 500% over budget as well
(making $3.4 million on it's $44 million cost for it's making).
Cimino's depiction of what took place on the early American frontier was more than frank and religiously faithful to the actual events
that took place in Wyoming in the 1890s. As Sheriff James Averill
(Kris Kristofferson) protects immigrants from greedy and
wealthy land and cattle snatchers. He also has problems with one of the hired guns, Nathan Champion
(Christopher Walken) who
is also smitten with the Sheriff's girl, Ella Watson. This only adds to the conflict which quickly culminates into a full battle. Mickey
Rourke was also featured in Ciminoís overly underrated, criticized and overlooked film. He was cast as the shy and timid ìNick Rayî
opposite Walken in a brief supporting role that would be one of the most untypical characters he has played.
This character synopsis was written by K. Thompson feedback is greatly appreciated.
