Sylvester Stallone is cast as the lead in the remake of this 1971 classic “Get Carter”. Michael Caine who starred as Jack Carter
in the original film was cleverly brought back to play an intregal part in this 2000 Version. This movie features stellar performances
from shining stars such as Alan Cumming (Jeremy Kinnear), Rachael Leigh Cook (Doreen), Miranda Richardson (Gloria),
Rhona Mitra, Johnny Strong (II), and John C. McGinley.
Mickey Rourke co-stars as Cyrus Paice, a man with a past who is still caught up in the criminal life style. He does a great job at
portraying the despicable porn king who makes his living selling sex online. While Carter it seems had left Seattle to become a
changed man, Cyrus Paice stayed the same , if not worse. Carter returns to Seattle because of the death of his brother and after
speaking with those who attended his funeral Carter begins to suspect that his brother's death was not an accident. He sets out to
follow the verbal trails left behind by his niece (Rachel Leigh Cooke) and one of his brother's aqaintances (Rhona Mitra). He is soon
caught up in a series of deceptions that lead him straight to Cyrus Paice..
Believing that Cyrus is involved in the death of his brother the tension between these two characters grows more and more only to
bring about the most memorable facet of the movie, when the two of them face off. This fight scene could easily be named one of
Mickey's best fight scenes on screen, lining up with greats like his last boxing match in Homeboy, his face off with Jack Quinn (Jean
Claude Van Damme) in Double Team, or even his latest fight scene with Kevin (Elijah Wood), in the critically acclaimed
masterpiece Sin City. In probably one of his greatest roles Stallone gives a brilliant performance as Jack Carter and Mickey brings a
dangerous purpose to his role as Cyrus Paice.
This movie is filled with great one-liners and quotes such as " You’re gonna end up like a one-legged man in an ass-kicking
contest.” But none more meaningful and significant to us Mickey fans and to the industry than, "Whadda ya’ say Jack? ..Still
pretty?” This quote could easily be construed as Mickey asking whether his presence onscreen was welcomed after having been
gone for some time.
In the May 2005 Issue of SLY Magazine Sylvester interviews Mickey about his recent comeback and Mickey touches alittle on
how important being in Get Carter was to his career and to him personally: ‘Sylvester Stallone’: You’re working a lot now.
MICKEY ROURKE: YEAH, THEY’RE LETTING ME WORK.
Sylvester Stallone’: Because you’re an original.
I JUST DID THIS INTERVIEW WITH ROLLING STONE, AND THE GUY WAS SAYING, “When did you start working
again?” AND I SAID, ‘WELL, I’LL TELL YOU, I WAS SITTING IN A RESTAURANT ONE TIME, AND I COULD HARDLY
PAY FOR MY MEAL. IT’S FUNNY, I LOOKED UP AND SLY WAS STANDING THERE, AND HE GOT ME A JOB AND
THEN HE PAID ME OUT OF HIS POCKET.’ Sylvester Stallone’: Best investment I ever made.
Still pretty you ask? You betcha’ Mickey! The prettiest there IS, the prettiest there ever WAS and the prettiest there EVER will
be!!!
