Desperate Housewife .. Desperate Criminal .. Desperate Hours
|
He is an inordinately brilliant, yet psychotic criminal on trial for armed robbery, the shootings of three during the massive bank heist
and once incarcerated, killing a prison guard. The man cleverly seduces his very beautiful and hopelessly smitten lawyer (Kelly
Lynch) into assisting him not only in the escape, but with his master get-away plan to Mexico as well. Also accompanying the
fugitive is his younger brother Wally (Elias Koteas) and his nervous and awkward pal Albert (David Morse). In dire near of a
hideout, he uses his dashing smile and magnetic charisma to gain entry into the less than happy upscale suburban home of Tim and
Nora Cornell (Sir Anthony Hopkins and Mimi Rogers) and their two children as he awaits the arrival of his lovesick
attorney-turned accomplice. Also featured is Lindsay Crowse as the determined female FBI agent in charge of the massive manhunt.
Meet Michael Bosworth, a relentlessly intimidating tall, dark and brutally handsome escaped con. Bosworth wears a gentlemanís
persona, confident bravado and sophisticated facade along with an unforced cool. He is as equally smooth as he is dangerous and
prefers to dress for dinner and only considers a man a gentleman by whether or not he knows how to mix a proper martini. Heís is
smooth alright! ..Michael Bosworth is a smooth criminal of epic proportions. In this remake of the 1955 classic Humphrey Bogart
thriller, Desperate Hours was written with the collaboration of Joseph Hayes, author of the original novel in which he also scripted
a Broadway play and the screenplay for the first film. The updated version reunites Academy Award winning director Michael
Cimino with one of his favorite actors to work with to portray the Michael Bosworth character. That actor was Mickey Rourke.
Cimino took full advantage of Rourkeís abilities and sculpted this intense psychological drama.
As time passes so does his calm, cool, collected and soft-spoken manner. His smile soon begins to fade with his patience and he
begins to use the familyís personal troubles against each other while holding them hostage in their own home. Michael tortures,
torments and manipulates the Cornells. When they decide to make a stand which can either destroy or unite them as never before,
the family begins to fight back. Michael Bosworthís furious rage builds as the Desperate Hours begin.
LA TIMES Review: October 5, 1990
Sleek, It's like a mix of a grade A thriller and grade opera full of crazy opulence and arias for both Rourke and Hopkins."
