Gorman Lennox
White Sands is all in the timing. This is a sublime film far too many have yet to see or heard of.
The perfect pace, effective acting and laid-back setting is intentionally kept understated so the
backdrop doesn't distract from what the players bring to the screen. "White Sands" is the type
of film which ages beautifully.  It only becomes better in time with each viewing.
Mickey Rourke at his best! An absolute natural for the role as major player Gorman Lennox.. a
mysteriously slick and ruthless wheeler-dealer. This role is played with his precise expertise. As
always, through Rourke's aura, he shines and command of his scenes without completely taking
it away from his co-stars. This is a very rare talent few actors are blessed with. The character of
Gorman is one of Rourke's most effective, yet and under-appreciated on-screen performances
with his signature dangerously cool, yet shifty smooth perfection and control right on cue! As the
events begin to catch up with him, the audience is more than happy to come on along for the ride.
The camaraderie between
Gorman, Ray and Lane is superb. Mickey Rourke plays Lennox with
his keep them guessing flair and sensually magnetic bastard persona.
Along with the Willem Dafoe, as Sheriff Ray Dolezal (a role the audience can easily identify with)
as he continues to put the pieces of this sinister agenda together. In the opening sequences of the
film, Ray is pretty much just like everyone else. As far as the is the quality of Dafoe's performance
he makes an easy connection between his major co-stars. Enter
Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio as
(Lane Bodine) plays the alluring, dangerous, irresistible woman whose memory always haunt the
men in her life. While previously involved with Gorman,  While it's clear he continues to charm her,
but soon she joins forces with Ray to help him find Gorman's true agenda.
Samuel L. Jackson's
(Pulp Fiction) talent is plain to see through his savvy portrayal of FBI agent Greg Meeker, who is
also on the hunt for the culprit of the crime involving stolen money, betrayal, murder and greed.
It's a picture which not only entertains, it provokes thought through performances by the principal
cast is wonderfully performed and fun to watch. Indeed, one factor which makes the film work so
well is the chemistry between the three main players on screen and how they unfold the storyline
which is filled with twists and turns and unexpected surprises which leads to a satisfying ending.
While White Sands is an excellent visual case study in aliases, identities, trust, and mind games,
it's pieced together quite nicely in a mesmerizing tale of intrigue and corruption. Still, it remains
over-looked far too often in spite it's many perks which include exquisite one-liners and dialog.
