Sin City available on Blu-ray in Canada
Mickey Rourke magnetized the screen as 'Marv' in Robert Rodriguez's
filmisation of the classic Frank Miller graphic 'Sin City' novels, and now
he hits Blu ray in Canada.
The disk is bare bones (unlike the feature laden SE DVD set) and
features the theatrical cut of the movie, but fans will be thrilled to see this
cult film in 1080p Hi Def with a choice of both Dolby Digital 5.1 and DTS
HD Master 5.1 sound.
This disk is multi-region (meaning it will also play in US and all other
countries players), and presents the film in it's
original aspect ratio of 1.85 to 1.

Rourke sets Blu ray on fire in Body Heat
Lawrence Kasdan's directorial debut Body Heat has just hit Blu ray in
glorious 1080p. This hugely successful Neo Noir film made stars out of
both William Hurt and Kathleen Turner and also introduced the movie
going world to our man Mickey Rourke in a performance that set his
career on fire.
This Blu ray features all of the extra features that were presented on the
2006 Deluxe Edition DVD in the form of an in depth three part
documentary (featuring the two main stars, the director and other key
members of the crew), TV interviews with the two stars, five deleted
scenes and the theatrical trailer.
Presented in the film's original aspect ration of 1.85 to 1 and featuring
Dolby TrueHD 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1 sound. The disk is multi region.

Domino on Blu-ray
The highly successful Tony Scott directed 'Domino', a film loosely inspired
by the real life story of Domino Harvey, just hit Blu-ray on Jan 20th.
Harvey (the daughter of movie star Laurence Harvey and fashion model
Paulene Stone) turned her nose up at her high society background to become
an accomplished and professionally renowned bounty hunter, and upon
reading her story in a British newspaper article, Scott realized that this was
the stuff of a potentially great movie. Sadly, Domino died of a drug overdose
shortly after the film's release. Among the mourners present at her funeral
were Tony Scott and Mickey Rourke.
Although the film was intended as a Keira Knightley vehicle, I feel Mickey
really stole the show, putting in a wonderful performance as Domino's
bounty hunting mentor Ed Mosbey. Also appearing in a great cameo is
Rourke friend and regular co-conspirator Christopher Walken as an
opportunistic and smarmy TV exec intent on turning Domino's exciting but
dangerous life into a reality TV show - hosted by Ian Ziering and Brian Austin
Green of 'Beverly Hills, 90210' fame (playing themselves). The film also
features appearances by Jacqueline Bisset and Lucy Liu, and introduces
newcomer Edgar Ramirez.
The Blu ray features the exact same special features as the previous DVD
release:
- Audio Commentary with Director Tony Scott and Writer Richard Kelly
- Alternate Audio Track: Development Meetings with Tony Scott, Richard
Kelly, producer Zach Schiff-Abrams and actor Tom Waits
- I Am a Bounty Hunter: Domino Harvey's Life (21 minute featurette)
- Bounty Hunting on Acid: Tony Scott's Visual Style (11 minute featurette)
- 7 Deleted Scenes (8 minutes - presented in 1080p HD)
Presented in the film's original aspect ratio of 2.40:1 and in 1080p High
Definition with a TrueHD 5.1 soundtrack. The disk is multi-region.

Man on Fire blew us away with a dark, gritty, powerful story of a man on the
edge fighting to protect the only thing he loved in this world, an innocent
child. Of course the show belongs to Denzel Washington, but as Rourke
fans we can get a double dose of great film entertainment and still see our
man Mickey doing his thing, which whilst a small role, is STILL a Mickey
Rourke performance! Also, in a similarly small but significant role, we get to
enjoy the usual thespian exellence that we have come to expect from
Rourke's long time friend and ofttimes co-collaborator Christoper Walken.
Now for quite a while there has been a Blu-ray edition of Man on Fire
available in the USA (region A). The disk features 1080p video and DTS HD
5.1 sound, but is Bare Bones (contains NO extra features)!
UK and Australian fans are being spoilt however with their own recent
releases of the title. Their Audio and Video specs remain the same as the US
release, but they also be get ALL the extra features from the previous 2 disc
DVD edition, namely:
- Audio commentary by Director Tony Scott
- Audio commentary by Production – Lucas Foster, Brian Helgeland and
Dakota Fanning
- Vengeance is Mine: Re-inventing Man on Fire Documentary
- 15 Deleted Scenes with Optional Audio Commentary by Director Tony Scott
- Pita's Abduction: Multi-Angle Sequence with Optional Commentary by
Director Tony Scott
- Pita's Abduction: Tony Scott's Storyboards (53 stills)
- Pita's Abduction: Script Excerpt (8 stills)
- Photo Gallery (60 stills)
- Music Video: Kinky ‘Oye Como Va'
- Theatrical Trailers
Both countries Man on Fire Blu ray's are region free, so they will play in US
players. Enjoy!

"Killshot hits Blu ray & DVD May 26th"
Here it is, the movie we've all been waiting for. It has languished in obscurity
on the shelves of the The Weinstein Company for over 3 years, and only the
most diehard fans even knew it existed, but our patience is about to be
rewarded. After momentarily appearing in a few select theatres, but being
pulled from the screens faster than you can say "honey let's get a babysitter
for the night", it will now hit Blu ray and DVD on May 26, 2009. I don't know
what to expect quality wise, but Mickey as a hitman sounds like gold to me,
and even if the rest of the cast tanks in comparison, I know I'll enjoy seeing
Diane Lane up there on the screen with him. The fact that this has an R
rating tells me that we are going to see some intense action, AND acting in
this one.

Homeboy On Blu Ray
"Lots of Rourke goodness on the way, including one of my faves"
"What's gets me most excited is that we have finally got a top quality
release of Homeboy on the way. For years I had this on laserdisk in 4x3 full
screen and treasured it, even though I knew that it was not the correct
widescreen aspect ratio/framing for the film. Then it was released on DVD
in the US a year or so back, still only in 4x3, but that was a BIG boon for all
those fans who didn't own a laser disk player (being 99.99 percent of
people). But now we are finally getting a quality, remastered and
anamorphic widescreen release! Starring Mickey Rourke, Christopher
Walken and Rourke's ex-wife Debra Feuer, and featuring a hauntingly
beautiful soundtrack by Eric Clapton, this film is a rough diamond which
will not appeal to all, but which will resonate deeply in the hearts of many. It
will hit stores on September 1st.
The Informers
Next up is The Informers, which hits DVD and Blu ray on August 25 th. Not
so excited about this one, but it does feature two of my favourite actors in
Mickey Rourke and Billy Bob Thornton. Presented in the films original
aspect ratio of 2.4:1, the Blu ray will feature 1080p video and 5.1 Dolby
TrueHD audio, and both Blu ray and DVD will include a Director & Cast
Commentary and a featurette titled "Human Intersections: Making The
Informers".

Directed by the brilliant Alan Parker, starring Mickey Rourke and featuring a
magnificent cameo by Robert De Niro. Also featuring an excellent
performance from Charlotte Rampling and a solid debut by Lisa Bonet in
her first feature film. Angel Heart is one of my (and many peoples) favourite
films, and it is certainly a jewel in Mickey Rourke's filmography.
It now comes to Blu ray. Presented in the original aspect ratio of 1.85:1
with a 1080p transfer and a DTS-HD 5.1 sound mix.
Almost all the extras from the Special Edition DVD are present. We get:
- Introduction by Alan Parker
- Interview with Alan Parker
- Audio commentary by Alan Parker
- Interview with Mickey Rourke
- Selected scene commentary with Mickey Rourke
- Theatrical Trailer
Sadly we miss out on the large Voodoo featurette that was on the DVD
(although it could be said that it was not DIRECTLY related to the film and I
did get the feeling it was a watered down politically correct representation
of the practice). We also miss out on two small behind-the-scenes
featurettes called "Creating the Look" and "Choreographing a Voodoo
Ritual", two video based "talent profiles" for Parker and Bonet, and 2
original promo interview clips with Parker and Bonet.
Please not that all references here are to the US release, and that the UK
release is a bare bones film only disk.
